The Role
As an Interim Senior Planning Officer, you’ll be responsible for evaluating and processing a variety of complex planning applications, ensuring high-quality development that aligns with the Council's objectives. You’ll work closely with developers, stakeholders, and local government representatives to negotiate S106 agreements, secure development contributions, and uphold planning policies.
Key responsibilities include:
✔️ Assessing and determining a range of planning applications, including major developments
✔️ Providing pre-application advice to developers and stakeholders
✔️ Negotiating S106 agreements to maximize development benefits for the borough
✔️ Preparing reports, commissioning consultations, and presenting cases at Development Management Committee meetings
✔️ Representing the Council at planning appeals
✔️ Offering guidance to junior team members and contributing to development management strategies
✔️ Supporting the creation of site planning briefs, master plans, and new Residential Design Guidance
What We're Looking For
✅ Ideally have a planning degree or RTPI-recognized postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience)
✅ Strong knowledge of Development Management best practices
✅ Extensive understanding of planning legislation and its application
✅ Ability to work independently, managing a varied caseload of major planning applications
✅ Problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisive decisions
✅ Excellent communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, developers, and council representatives
